Hello Pretty is Winding Down

After more than ten fulfilling, magical years beginning in the good old days of 2012, Hello Pretty is retiring and heading off to the beach with a drink with a tiny umbrella.

Colour Palette- Reds

Summer is officially over in South Africa and we are swiftly moving into autumn. With this comes the colder weather, but also the beautiful autumn colours. I love when the trees' leaves start to change colour; I saw the most beautiful tree with red leaves the other day, and so this has inspired me to put together a red colour palette for today’s post.

This subtle red and white cushion from Kerry Cherry is perfect for the bedroom or lounge and gives just that pop of colour you want. The red seedbead necklace from Blossom Handmade will definitely make you stand out. I love the Veon bag, which comes in tomato red, from the Melo Unlimited Brand store.

The red printed passport cover from Creative Lines is bright enough for you not to lose your passport in your tomato red handbag while travelling. How cute are these egg potjies from Ranzani? What’s great about these is that you can use them for dip pots or to serve salt and pepper as well.

Savior Brand Co

Savior Brand Co on Hello Pretty

One of our longest standing, loyal and supportive sellers, Savior Brand Co, has been up to some pretty amazing things this year.

Not only have they continued to produce some seriously droolworthy leather goods, but they have also done Durban a solid by pumping out mean cappuccino's and killer cupcakes from their new coffee shop at 51 Station Drive.

And what's even better is that they're sharing the goodness with all SBC fans, worldwide! You can get hold of your very own Savior Brand Co coffee beans on Hello Pretty, right over here.

Coffee beans not your thing? Need a coffee fix some other way? SBC totes has you covered - you can put it all over your body! (Or if you're like us, fill up on delicious SBC coffee AND cover youself in it. Just to make sure you cover all of your bases.)

This coffee scrub is packed with ground premium Arabica coffee, sugar, salt, coconut oil, olive oil and cinnamon - so basically all that is nice in the world, barring peanut butter and Louboutins. Please just don't blame us when the stranger next to you in the bank queue wants to lick your face.

So do us a favour, and get on down there if you find yourself in Durban - have a cupacke, and give Max a squeeze from us while you're at it.

They're also pretty awesome at supporting other local talent, and have exhibitions and the like in the space. Good coffee and nice guys? Win win.

Kraft Eyewear has also made an appearance - these fantastic glasses come with polarised lenses, or, if you prefer, you can get your prescription glasses some super cool new frames. Each style is named after something in Durban: a street name, a hotel - each frame has a story.

Love them but not in Durban? You're in luck! Because you can grab them right over here. You can't say we never gave you anything.

We were like proud aunties the day the invitation to the Lo 2014-15 Spring/Summer collection at MBFWCT arrived in our inboxes - we get so warm and fuzzy when awesome things happen to our designers!

So when the day rolled round we tarted up in our best cerise pink lipstick and gold leather pencil skirts and made our way to the CTICC - and I have to say, CTICC, you clean up nice.

What was just as awesome is that on arrival we ran into one of our favourite photographic fundi duo's, The Dollie House - don't they look fabulous?

(And then there's a gratuitous photo of hundreds of Philippe Starck Louis Ghost Chair replicas, because *swoon.*)

We were blown away once the show started, and were *those* people in amongst the fab fashionistas who were whooping and whistling like lunatics.

I do love a good scalloped edge, and enjoyed seeing it as a repeated motif throughout the show - the clothes were fresh and easy to wear with a sporty edge. There was one Little Red Dress that was practically screaming my name from the runway! The clean, linear elements that are Lo's signature were complimented with really fun prints, that made me long for poolside Summer sundowners.

There she is! We scooped her up for a glass of bubbly afterwards to celebrate - well done Elzanne! We're so proud of you and your collection. Upwards and onwards!

Oh yes, and you can (and should) totally visit the Lo Hello Pretty store right over here.

Stay golden!

One trend that's been on the go for a while now, and one that we cannot get enough of, is a bit a gold slung around a gal's waist. Well, gold anything really, but what better way to revel in something gorgeous than to drape it around yourself?

Stay golden with Hello Pretty!

Gorgeous no? And what's better is that I know how you can get this look!

Not just any old gold belt mind - a hand cut brass beauty straight from the studio of SMITH Jewellery in Cape Town.

*swoon!*

I was lucky enough to have access to one of the cuffs at last years SAFW Pop Up, and at the end of the media launch I was genuinely heartbroken to have to take it off (We all took it upon ourselves to model some of the fab work of our sellers for the cameras - I can't think of a better excuse to dolly up). The craftmanship is absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you to Sarah from The Angelheaded Hipster and Lara from A Fashion Friend for the SAFW Pop Up pics!

Swoon over it some more on Pardon Our French (they're very fancy over there).

Vintage With Love

I was recently invited to a lovely, intimate breakfast with the ladies behind Vintage With Love - I had heard of the Jo'burg event, and was really interested in finding out what happens behind the scenes.

The concept is that fashionistas get to shop til they drop, and all proceeds go to literacy charities - that Jo'burg event? R750 000 in the bag, to help teach kiddies to read. Impressive or what? Not your aunties average pre-owned clothing sale - these ladies mean business.

Naturally the next step is to expand their reach to include Cape Town, which is where breakfast came in. The most fabulous Pnina Fenster charmed the pants off us, with tales of the fantasies that both vintage and the ability to read can weave in our lives.

"We've never lived in an age where fashion is so changeable and democratised - this age of consumption makes vintage all the more precious." Pnina felt that vintage is surrounded by the magic of chance - to find with a really great vintage piece is a serendipitous event in itself. How did this piece come to find you? Did someone fall in love wearing this?

Once we were well fed and whipped into a nostalgic frenzy by Pnina's anecdotes, we got down to brass tacks - how do we get involved?

The main event is to take place during the first weekend of June 2015, at The Forum Company in Constantia - but first, they need a hand from anyone looking to purge themselves of any gently worn fashion taking up space at the back of their wardrobes. (If only to make space for new things!)

Menswear Trends with Hello Pretty

Menswear Trends with Hello Pretty

Some of you may recall the Beeld Lifestyle article on menswear trends that we contributed to a little while ago - since we were sharing some premium intel (because we're totally humble), we decided to elaborate a bit further for you guys.

So menswear trends in 2014! These aren't so much predictions as observations as we go about our daily lives - the boys are getting more and more comfortable with expressing themselves, which is really great to see. And fun!

Prints are making a real splash, and florals aren't just being reserved for women anymore.  What's nice is that if you're not a full male fashionista, the huge number of printed accessories for men are available that allow you to dip your toes into the trends.  For example, printed bow ties, as well as a massive growth in the popularity of printed, quirky socks.

Statement shoes also seem to be making appearances everywhere - the printed trend also comes into play here, but for the more reserved guy even just brightly coloured sneakers are all over the place.  Coming into play here as well is a trend that is becoming huge across all spheres of influence, not just mens fashion - being able to customise your shoes or sunglasses and own once off items in a world surrounded by mass production is very appealing. For example, one of our sellers, Eish Hade allows you to customise your sneakers. (Also reflective of the continued world wide rise of "craft")

Accessories like "man bags" are also very on trend - leather goods, for instance, are a classic and elegant investment that can stay with you for life. (for example, Savior Brand Co and Chartermade) Camo has been seeping back for a while - this does not mean it must be baggy! (oversized also doesn't necessarily equate to baggy) A tailored look is always on trend - South African men seem to be paying closer attention to taking better care of themselves, so stuff is fitting better, beards are trendy and groomed and people are just looking more put together.

Jewellery is becoming more widely accepted, with arm parties not being just for the ladies! "Africas" are popping up with increasing regularity, which are very special and unique, and wooden rings are hugely popular.

What's nice to see is that fashion is becoming a lot more accessible - I think the rise of male fashion bloggers also contribute to high fashion filtering down to the average guy. People are also looking to street style for inspiration more and more, as opposed to just glossy mags. Although we feel they feed off each other as well.

So that's what WE think. How about you? Do you have any suggestions or predictions for menswear trends?
