Hello Pretty is Winding Down

After more than ten fulfilling, magical years beginning in the good old days of 2012, Hello Pretty is retiring and heading off to the beach with a drink with a tiny umbrella.

Are you sick of your kids yet?

It's almost the start of the new school year. After such a lovely long break with family, we're betting everyone is 100% ready to cruise back into their routines and kick 2020 off to a great start!

Our team is full-swing into planning and making goals for the year. We have some super sweet stuff in the works that we're excited to show you! In the banner above is 5 Things' A2 desk planner. Having a visual display of your intentions, and writing them down, is a very effective way to keep inspired and on-track. We're on-paper girls for that and having it all laid out in a structured way we can 100% recommend.

imadethat.studio is an awesome little business with a big heart. All their stuff is made from upcycled and off-cut pieces of fabric, meaning less in the landfills.

Colour Palette- Greens

The Bosco Verticale in Milan has inspired me to put together a colour palette of beautiful green products from Hello Pretty. A little green here and there can brighten up your home and wardrobe with ease. If you like to take risks go for something in lime green or a rich emerald, and if you like to stay on the safe side, go for something in mint or pale green.

I really like this green handstitched Lulu bag from Created in Eden. It’s not too risky but adds a bit of colour. The arrows green scatter cushion from Phlo Studio is great for some subtle colour too. For something a little brighter, they have this amazing lime green seedling sheen scatter cushion

The Green African Shield from African Swell Creations will brighten up your home; it can be used as table décor or put up on the wall. If you are feeling colourful, go for this green seedbead bracelet from Blossom Handmade, which will brighten up your outfit.

Prints of Wes Anderson by Laura Weiszer

Yes…  a million times yes!  I have a special place in my lounge earmarked for these Wes Anderson prints by Laura Weiszer.

What makes them that much more impressive is that they are painted in acrylics - guys, painting in acrylic is HARD.  It’s like a constant war on time.  The race to do what you need to do before it dries actually makes me anxious.

No space for prints, or your mom isn’t interested in your ambition to redecorate the house with your obvious good taste?  That’s fine, you can cover yourself, your bags, lampshades and dogs collar with her Wes Anderson buttons.

This illustrator, designer and student is based in Philadelphia, and her prints are available from her etsy store.

Jen Stark Art

Oh my quivering greatness.

I have a small obsession with paper art.  I think it is so beautiful, and is such a versatile material.  Would I be able to do it?  Nope.  I’m a clumsy oaf that will dirty, crumple, sit on and tear anything that even smells this delicate.

Jen Stark is a master of her craft - her meticulous craftsmanship and her apparent endless patience allows beautiful items like these to find a place in the world.  Colorlovers.com very aptly describes her work as “an amusement park for the eyes.”  Apparently “the recurring geometric patterns in each piece reflect many elements of life, including the passage and intervallic rhythm of time.”  I can’t quite get that far - I just keep staring at it all, trying to absorb the awesomeness.

Images I Love

I have a folder on my desktop of images I love, and that have stuck with me over the years. When I’m feeling blue, or uninspired, or lazy, I take a peek at some of them for an instant visual pick-me-up. This is one of my favourites -  a conceptual poster by a designer named Roland Tiangco. The back of the poster is coated with pigment, and the front is spot-varnished (more on the production here). As you unfold the poster, your hands inevitably get stained with the pigment on the back, which ends up getting onto the front, revealing the hidden message. So simple, but so powerful.
